What will remain – The Jackie Clarke Collection – Ballina

Jackie Clarke Collection, Ballina

It matters what stories tell stories. Artist Shane Finan is artist-in-residence at the Jackie Clarke Collection in Ballina from May to November 2022. His project considers how we choose to collect. Responding to the unique texts and objects that are housed in the Jackie Clarke Collection, he has been gathering ideas, conversations and stories from Ballina and the surrounding areas. From August 2022, he will begin presenting artworks created from these collected moments at the museum. The collection of artworks will grow each week, just like a collection grows over time. It will gradually form a museum for the future from the many voices that make up the present. On Culture Night, halfway through this process, he will be making work on-site and will be available to speak about this process between 5pm and 7pm.

This residency is supported by Mayo County Council Arts Service in partnership with the Jackie Clarke Collection, Ballina and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012 – 2023 initiative.
