Culture Gets You Happy
A Gathering of Local Jazz artists to celebrate Ireland’s Culture Night. Small outside live audience and filmed for streaming on Westport Jazz Facebook page after the event.
Celebrated Westport blues, jazz and roots artist Joanne Keegan on guitar, singing her own songs in inimitable style, along with fellow guitarist, Eddie Walsh.
Joanne launched her debut album ‘Moody Woman’ to great fanfare and an appreciative crowd at Westival, 2019, getting the seated crowd on their feet in response to some incredibly affecting soulful renditions of her own writing, a formidable presence on stage and in smaller gig settings.
Popular local jazz trio Ain’t Misbehavin’ – Aisling Smyth and Michael and Joseph Halloran – also launched a CD in 2019 (eponymously titled ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’), playing together now for over nine years, pleasing audiences with their vivacious take on favourite jazz numbers as well as some of their own material.
Westport Jazz has another busy year ahead, with plans to bring plenty of local, national and international jazz to the town, live and online, in its own right and also in collaborative partnership with Westival.
Westport Jazz’s offering will be celebrating the Culture Night theme for 2021 of – ‘Inclusion, Human Rights and Diversity’. Our musical representation has ranged from Slovakian Gypsy guitar prodigies to octogenarian players and from youth composers and community arts activists from rural Ireland and the islands to those of our capital and international climes.
We look forward to a great fun night of groovesome music!
