Description:

Join artist and filmmaker Eóin Heaney for the premiere of Travelling Light, a new hybrid documentary. Presented within the atmospheric setting of St. Mona’s Church on Sherkin Island, the film explores migration, ecology, perception, and resilience through the interconnected lives of island communities, wildlife, and the surrounding Atlantic Ocean. Blending documentary, observation, and poetic imagery, Travelling Light reflects on the visible and invisible forces that shape island life, from seasonal movements of birds and marine life to the memories, traditions, and lived experiences of those who call the islands home. The film will screen continuously from 5.00pm until 10.00pm, allowing visitors to arrive and depart at any time throughout the evening. The church will be softly darkened so that the moving image becomes the primary source of light, with vivid colour sequences illuminating the historic interior and creating an immersive viewing experience. Eóin Heaney will be present throughout the evening and welcomes visitors to discuss the project, its development, and the stories and ideas that inspired the film. This work has been created as part of the Ocean & Environment project supported by Creative Places West Cork Islands.
