Transistor Dreams

For Culture Night 2023, No. 8 Gallery is excited to be showing work by artist Aileen McGee. Aileen grew up in Kildare town and this series of work draws on her memories of this time. She has recently returned to Ireland after decades spent working and living all over the world, most recently in London where this body of work was created.

'Transistor Dreams' is a series of paintings about memories; a kaleidoscope of kinds, a collision of holidays, road tripa and returning home.

Aileen’s work is rooted in colour and pattern. As she was making this work she was drawn to the memory of the wallpaper sample books of her early childhood, where she says her fascination with colour and pattern started. Some of her earliest memories are of the wallpaper factory on this street where her grandparents lived when she was a child.
