Live and recorded readings, vision and sound through an innovative projection. Open to all passers-by on Saint Brendan Street Birr, from 8.30pm.
In the historic past, recent past and in the present, the written words of ‘modest’ Birr poets have been shared abroad to wide acclaim. On this Culture Night there will be readings of a selection of these, by a notable Offaly actor Darragh O’Toole, and a lauded writer and living poet Eileen Casey.
Three of those notables’ poems will be read: cabinetmaker and nationalist, John de Jean Frazer; the ‘red-headed rebel’ Susan Mitchell, and Kathleen Murphy. A small selection of living poets’ works will also be read from anthologies published in the 1990s, and more recently.
Poetry on the Wall is a walk up event and no bookings required. Social Distancing measures will take place.
