‘The Winter Dress’ by Angela Keogh in Castledermot

Mend and Makedo Theatre Company

‘The Winter Dress’ by Angela Keogh is a play set close to Castledermot during the Black Death and will be performed in the open air on Culture Night. Set on a winter’s night in 1348, the story follows the lives of two characters, Rose the dressmaker who has just left Castledermot and Brother John, a Norman monk who is returning to the town after a twenty year absence. The event will be stages on the grounds of the Library on Castledermot Main Street, the medieval centre of the town.

The play is a vibrant reflection on the history of the village at a particularly dark time. The play is a story of resilience, hope and optimism in the face of tremendous darkness which echoes our world in recent times.

‘The Winter Dress’ features Angela Keogh and John MacKenna in the roles of Rose and Brother John.

The play will last approximately 30-40 minutes. You are welcome to bring a camp chair.

This event is supported by Kildare County Council and funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media’s Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.
