Welcome to Culture Night at the Whale Theatre!

This year, we're delighted to present a very special evening of Classical Cabaret featuring some of Ireland's finest classical musicians. With an engaging, entertaining and exhilarating programme, Wicklow-based violinist Lynda O’ Connor, cellist Ailbhe McDonagh and pianist Máire Carroll will take you on a journey through a selection of much-loved classical chamber music repertoire.

Lynda O’ Connor
Lynda O’Connor is one of the greatest Irish violinists of her generation. Showing particularly early promise she made her debut solo performance at the age of four in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, which began her International career as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader.
“The most impressive moments in these two performances were provided by the long-breathed phrasing of Lynda O’Connor.” - Michael Dervan (The Irish Times)

Ailbhe McDonagh
Ailbhe McDonagh is a renowned Irish cellist who has earned international recognition as both a soloist and chamber musician. Ailbhe has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and has given performances for the Irish President at Áras an Uachtaráin.
"McDonagh plays with flawless technique, faultless intonation, and a strong yet meltingly sweet tone." - Fanfare Magazine

Máire Carroll
Máire Carroll is a pianist, composer and collaborator who has performed throughout Europe, Asia, United States and Canada including performances at Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall. Driven by a passion for contemporary music and adventurous collaboration, Máire regularly works with composers at home and abroad. Máire is the Artistic Director of Hidden Pianos, which she launched in 2018 with the aim of sharing classical and contemporary music in site-specific locations. Hidden Pianos is an intimate performance experience bringing the piano to exciting venues and has been featured on RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ Lyric FM, RTÉ Culture and The Irish Times.
