Description:

This Culture Night, visitors are invited to explore the public rooms of the Mansion House, the official residence of Dublin’s Lord Mayor. Built by Joshua Dawson and the setting for important civic and historic events for more than 300 years, the Mansion House offers a fascinating glimpse into Dublin’s political and cultural history.

Visitors can enjoy a self-guided tour of the Oak Room, Drawing Room, Dining Room, and Lady Mayoress Parlour, with staff on hand throughout the evening to answer questions and provide assistance.

The highlight of the tour is the Oak Room, created as part of the original purchase agreement with Joshua Dawson. As its name suggests, the room is panelled entirely in oak, with some of the original panelling still preserved. Designed for civic receptions over three centuries ago, it continues to serve that purpose today. The room also houses notable portraits, including that of Charles Stewart Parnell, founder of the Home Rule Party, and displays the individual coats of arms created for Dublin’s Lord Mayors in consultation with the Chief Herald of Ireland.
