Learn about the history of Dublin’s Libraries with Lisa Marie Griffith. This tour is for anyone who loves reading, books, libraries and Dublin history. It’s a stroll through the city centre to take in the history of Dublin’s libraries, hear about some unusual collections and look at library architecture. The tour will focus on the move away from the idea that libraries were exclusive spaces restricted to the city’s elite and how they became public places free for us all to enter and participate in. It will meet outside Alliance Française on Kildare Street, visit inside the library of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, stop outside the National Library of Ireland, and finish at Kevin Street library to hear about modern public libraries. Staring Point: Alliance Française.
