Organs were installed in town halls throughout the world in the 19th century to help bring classical music to the communities they were serving. Organists would share transcriptions to pass on to listeners, often the only way to access classical music at that time.
Stewart Smith presents a short program of organ works alongside transcripts of film and music. A celebration of one of this musical city’s finest instruments, which still commands the The Guildhall’s main stage. The Guildhall has been one of Derry’s most recognisable landmarks since 1890. As well as being home to the Council’s chamber and Mayor’s Parlour, it is a must see visitor attraction and home to diverse arts and cultural events.
