Description:

The Great Debate is a live satirical political performance by Red Bird Youth Collective, presented as the culmination of a 2026 project supported by the Arts Council’s Children and Young People’s Project Award and Galway City Council. Audiences are invited to witness campaign speeches, political promises, public debates and election drama as members embody characters from three fictional political parties: the Pangea Party, Green Party and Other Party. Developed through a year-long sculptural and world-building project, each party has its own visual identity, campaign aesthetics and political agenda. Blending performance, sculpture, costume, satire and youth voices, this engaging cultural experience invites audiences to engage with contemporary questions about democracy, media, identity and political spectacle. Audience members will be encouraged to ask questions, interact with candidates and cast votes in a mock election. A unique feature of the performance is the participation of a Green Party candidate joining the debate live on screen from Finland. Having relocated during the project, they remain an active member of the collective and will participate remotely, bringing an international dimension to the event

Is taibhiú polaitiúil beo, aorach é The Great Debate de chuid an Red Bird Youth Collective, a chuirtear i láthair mar bhuaicphointe ar thionscadal 2026 le tacaíocht ó Dhámhachtain Tionscadail Leanaí agus Daoine Óga na Comhairle Ealaíon agus Chomhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe. Tugtar cuireadh don lucht féachana óráidí feachtais, geallúintí polaitiúla, díospóireachtaí poiblí agus corraíl toghcháin a fheiceáil agus na baill i bpáirt carachtair ó thrí pháirtí polaitiúla ficseanúla: an Páirtí Pangea, an Páirtí Glas agus an Páirtí Eile. Forbraíodh é trí thionscadal dealbhóireachta agus tógála domhain a mhair ar feadh bliana, agus tá a bhféiniúlacht fhisiúil, aeistéitic feachtais agus clár oibre polaitiúil féin ag gach páirtí acu. Agus an taibhiú, dealbhóireacht, an gléasadh, an aoir agus guthanna na hóige á meascadh le chéile, tabharfar cuireadh don lucht féachana leis an eispéireas cultúrtha tarraingteach seo aghaidh a thabhairt ar cheisteanna comhaimseartha faoin daonlathas, faoi na meáin, faoin bhféiniúlacht agus faoi shaol aisteach na polaitíochta. Spreagfar an lucht féachana le ceisteanna a chur, idirghníomhú leis na hiarrthóirí agus vótaí a chaitheamh i dtoghchán bréige. Gné thar a bheith spéisiúil den taibhiú is ea go mbeidh iarrthóir ón bPáirtí Glas sa bhFionlainn ag glacadh páirt sa díospóireacht agus é beo ar an scáileán ón bhFionlainn. Cé gur athlonnaigh siad le linn an tionscadail, tá siad fós ina mball gníomhach den chomharghrúpa agus glacfaidh siad páirt go cianda, rud a fhágann go mbeidh gné idirnáisiúnta ag baint leis an ócáid.
