This Culture Night, join historian Richard Carson for The Fire Next Time, a new walking tour of Marlborough Street exploring the intertwined histories of deferred justice, secularity, gender, and social change through the stories of five fires spanning more than 270 years.

Following the success of Carson’s Race and Place in the City walking tour, featured on RTÉ Lyric FM and presented as part of Culture Night from 2023–2025, this tour brings together history, sociology, theology, and place to reveal unexpected stories that transform our imaginations of the place. Along the way, participants will encounter a divided mob united against a surprising common enemy, a terrorist attack that took an unexpected turn, and the forgotten twentieth-century laundry where women were once confined as ‘inmates’.
