Launch: The Harmonica Fixer


The Harmonica Fixer, a short film that profiles the musician Cathal  Johnson’s work as a musician and as a harmonica technician, who repairs  and customizes harmonicas for Andy Irvine and many others. This year,  harmonica manufacturers Hohner, celebrate 125 years of their iconic  Marine Band harmonica model, as played by the blues men and women of  the past century and by songwriters Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Cathal discusses the new hidden notes and secrets that we are  only learning about today after 125 years!

Shot in various locations around Galway featuring local Galway musicians  John O’Halloran on melodeon, Gerry Whelan on banjo, James Clenaghan  on guitar, Paul Moran on harmonica. Also featuring Mick Crehan on tin  whistle during the launch of Bádóirí an Chladaigh’s Galway hooker, Réalt na Gaillimhe.

As a follow up to the film, all the musicians involved will perform outside at  the Crane Bar, Sea Road, Galway, starting at 6 O’Clock.
