Description:

Silvina Sisterna’s Flags, The Blue In Between, convey her experience of migration as the space that exists between places, belonging not as a destination but something that forms slowly through repetition, movement, and everyday encounters with the landscape.

On Wellington Quay, the Flags will continue to move with the weather, staying in conversation with the changing river below.

Sisterna writes:
“My Flags emerged from walks on my way to and from my studio, returning to the same stretch of river and observing how it shifts through tides, weather, light and the movement of the city. As a migrant woman living in Dublin, this repeated journey has helped me learn about the city. The river feels familiar, yet elusive; it is always moving and never entirely fixed.”

Blending cyanotype with mixed media, she allows water and chance actively shape the work and respond to the river’s rhythms. The material’s process’s uncertainty reflects the artist’s experience of migration, where identity and belonging are continually negotiated rather than set in stone.

Silvina Sisterna is a Dublin based visual artist whose practice explores migration, belonging, memory, and relationships between people and place through alternative photographic processes, walking, writing and socially engaged collaborative practice.

The Blue In Between Flags will fly throughout the week of Culture Night. Silvina Sisterna will also be hosting a drop-in workshop which will take place from 14:00-20:00 on Culture Night.
