This event will take place at the newly renovated John McGahern Centre – The Barracks. Former childhood home of author John McGahern, The Barracks was officially launched in 2021 by former Irish President Mary McAleese.
The exhibition is an introduction, particularly for those not so familiar with his work, to the life and times of McGahern, rural policing and village life in Cootehall at the time.
Readings of McGahern’s works will take place over the course of the evening by Neil Tully, Louise Cole, Brian Farrell, Amy Barry, Gerry Boland, Anne Byrne, Maura Doherty, Doireann Markham. It will also play host to the presentation of the Roscommon New Writing Award 2021 to Neil Tully.
