Come along to the County Museum, where you may encounter the Banshee (bean sí), Ireland’s supernatural death messenger.

The Banshee can be seen crying, brushing her hair, and sometimes washing the clothes of the person about to die. These animated Banshees, along with the sounds of the Irish countryside — the screech of a barn owl, the cry of a fox — are brought to life by artist Cormac O’Kane through a variation of the sand-on-glass animation technique, by using turf mold instead. Cormac is a Lecturer in Animation at the Department of Design and Creative Media, at ATU Letterkenny.
