‘Tammurriata’ Workshop with Eliana Valentini – Workshop of Folkdances from Southern Italy
"Tammurriata’ is a dance from Naples and the area around Vesuvio and takes its name from the drum known as the ‘tammorra’. This is a large round drum, in a wooden frame in which jagged metal strips are inserted and which vibrate and jangle when played. The dance has a strong and vital connection to the 'soil', both psychically, in the nature of its dance steps, and emotionally, in the connection between the rural people and the land they worked.
Eliana Valentini (visual artist, dance teacher & performer) will guide you through the history and meaning of this traditional dance from the South of Italy, sharing her personal experience and passion. She will also teach you the basics steps and explain the rhythm and music structure.
The workshop is suitable for 16+, no previous dance experience is required.
