Description:

Sunset Sketch is a free guided sketching event in d.central, Priory Street, New Ross. The session will begin in d.central with an exploration of materials and media, mark making and scene selection. Participants are then invited to join artist Ben Dolan for a session looking at the possibilities for sketching and drawing.

This session intends to introduce people to the pleasure of drawing as an activity and to provide them with some simple techniques to get more from their sketching. They will be guided by the artist in observing, analysing and visually translating the scenes around them by using materials provided (pencils, charcoal, chalk, pastel, and pen/wash).

The area in front of d.central offers great scope for drawing, from the rich architectural heritage to the flora and fauna and the church and courthouse views. Artistic support and encouragement will be given at all times so that participants feel able to try sketching at their own pace and while demonstration of techniques will take place, this is primarily an enjoyable, participatory event.

The sketching event will be 2 hours long from 6 - 8pm and be followed by an exhibition opening, 8pm - 10pm for family, friends, fellow artists and anyone interested in the learning more about sketching. The show will be opened with a short talk on the benefits of drawing for health and creativity, and is open to the public to attend. This exhibition is designed to offer participants the chance to see all of the artworks and to mingle and discuss the sketching process and for audiences and art enthusiasts to hear more about the creative process.
