See the Interactive Playground return to Smithfeld this year with an even bigger programme for all ages to enjoy. The square will come alive with an array of workshops and demos introducing you to the world of yarn making along with drumming, dance and fencing taster classes and more.
ZONE 1 - Other Side of the Fence
Facepainting: 5.30 - 8.30pm
Get your face painted for Culture Night or get your own temporary removable culture night tattoo.
Fence Fit: 5pm - 9pm
Ever thought of having a go at fencing? Now is your opportunity. Go from Zero to Zorro in no time at all, or experience the world of Medieval and Renaissance Fencing. This is an all family and ages free event for Culture Night.
Zone 2 - Beats & Rhythms
Rhythm Riot: 5pm - 9pm
Grab a taste of Afro-Brazilian Carnival drumming with Rhythm Riot Music; the specialists in the powerful, swinging beats from the streets of Brazil. Rhythm Riot will offer 20 min taster sessions, creating a group and a groove on Brazilian percussion instruments, large and small. This one will be fun, accessible, hands on and suitable for the whole family. All equipment is provided to knock out the beats!
Zone 3 & 4 - Spinning A Yarn
Knitting Workshop and Demos: 5pm - 9pm
Take part in a world record attempt at making the largest knitted blanket. Knit your own square/strip that will be posted to the organiser in Co. Clare and have your names included in the list of 'makers' when the project is complete!
Weaving Workshop: 5pm - 8pm
Switch on your imagination and make a beautiful woven fairy light. We will be transforming plastic cups using a variety of wool and fabric to create a magical light. Weave your own story into the piece. A fun way to explore light, shadow and colour in a tactile way. Join in!
Spinning Demo/Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
Come investigate how wool was actually made in the 18th century Ireland by spinning wool on a spinning-wheel and with a drop-spindle.
Felt Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
Come and make beautiful tea light using soft Merino fibres. Using an array of fibres in luxury wool, silk and cashmere you would get the chance to make a tea light. It will have a light that you would be able to take away with you. The tea light is inspired by the smallest cell carrying light- a photon. Light up Smithfield Square with your creations!
Fabric Dying Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
Get creative by using a combination of decorative effects with neon colorants and Shibori dyeing techniques , create your own amazing 'switch on' design on a banner of silk.
Zone 5 - Let’s Get Technical
Dublin Jumping Clay Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
The workshops are called Mini Make & Take Workshops where each person will get the opportunity to get hands on, create their own mini masterpiece and take it home that day. Instructors will introduce colour mixing, basic shapes and teach an easy to follow step by step workshop that the whole family can enjoy!
Helium Arts Superhero Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
Mask making arts and craft workshop, ‘The Planet of the Capes’ experience will be coordinated by Helium Arts, and delivered on the night by a team of garda vetted volunteers, all with experience working with children & families and facilitating creative engagement activities with Helium Arts. Superhero skills will be based around Circus Skills activities, predominantly juggling and balancing objects.
Makeshop Ping Pong LED Workshop: 5pm - 9pm
Ping Pong LED workshop. will run a ‘make and take’ table at Culture Night’s Smithfield location Participants will be shown how to make small, glowing LED decorations using ping pong balls. Participants will be invited to make two, one to take home and one to leave behind as part of an ongoing design over the course of the night.
Zone 6 - Away with the Circus
Dublin Circus Project Workshops: 5pm - 9pm
Free play circus workshops for young people. There will be three session over the evening where young people can try juggling, hula hoop, diabolo, tightwire and more! There will be skilled circus facilitators on site to help instruct and help people start on their circus adventure!
Shrink-Wrapping Installation: 5pm - 9pm
Interactive shrink wrapping art installation by graffitt artist Bruno Ardnet.
INIKÉ' - West African Drum and Dance Ireland: 5.30pm - 9pm
INIKÉ will be bringing some of their West African moves and grooves to Culture Night at Smithfield Square this year..rhythmic beats and hip shaking guaranteed! "African Dance and drum workshop three 15min performances in Smithfield Square
Those Fire Guys Fire Performance: 9pm - 9.20pm
20 Minute fire breathing and fire poi performance.

Refuel between activities with a choice of gelato, Vintage Flair coffee, Venezualen street food, or sweet and savoury crepes!
