This four-part a cappella music dates from the 16th through the 20th centuries, and is characterised by haunting harmonies, traditional modes, raucous songs, serene hymns, fast fugues, and high-energy anthems. The notation is written in shapes that correspond to degrees of the scale, making it easy to sight-sing. The Sacred Harp tradition is focused on participation rather than performance and all voices are welcome. The Sacred Harp Singers of Dublin meet weekly (Friday 7pm – 9pm) in the Friary Centre in Cook Street and are delighted to welcome participants who wish to sing.
