Scéal na Michael is a rehearsed reading of a new play by Hazel Doolan, inspired by the legend of Oisín and Tír na nÓg and reimagined from Niamh’s perspective. Set in 1990s Ireland against the backdrop of the Good Friday Agreement, the story follows Sinéad, a young woman struggling to remember her late father. As she searches through old keepsakes, her mother recounts the story of how they met, fell in love and built a life together. Blending Irish mythology with contemporary history, the play explores love, memory, grief and family through a distinctly modern Irish lens. Directed by Meadhbh Murtagh and performed by Elaine Gordon and Eliza Beth O’Gorman, this 30-minute work-in-progress offers audiences an early opportunity to experience a new piece of Sligo theatre.
