Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral

Open Evening of Song and Guided Tours

Culture Night begins with Choral Evensong at 6:15pm (30 mins) which has it’s roots in the ancient monastic offices of Vespers and Compline and is sung in the Cathedral on Fridays at 6.15pm and Sundays at 7pm, September to June. The responses are sung by a Cantor and the Cathedral choir (normally adults on Fridays) sing the canticles, Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis, along with an Anthem.  All are welcome to immerse themselves in this historic and peaceful act of worship. Guided tours will be available at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. There will be a short performance by the Cathedral Choir at 7:45pm – a sample of the Cathedral’s almost 700 year old musical tradition. Those who prefer to come and look around for themselves are also most welcome. The Cathedral welcomes about 30,000 visitors from all over the world each year.  From the cannon ball, to the historic Cathedral Organ in a pit, to some of the best stained glass and mosaics in Ireland, to over 1,500 sculptures and carvings, to the intricate chancel ceiling, Saint Fin Barre’s is one of the finest examples of its type in Western Europe.
