Description:

Running Through Blue is an interactive urban art trail and family creative event taking place in Market Square, Castlebar, during Culture Night.

Participants will begin their journey at Market Square, where they will receive a specially designed map guiding them through the town. Following the trail, they will discover selected elements of Fabric of Hydrosphere: Heaviness of Blue, a textile artwork exploring the relationship between denim, water and textile water, alongside pieces created through the MANA Creative Circle clothing upcycling project.

The trail invites participants to explore the town through art, observation and discovery, while reflecting on the journey of clothing and materials from everyday use to potential waste.

After completing the trail participants will return to Market Square for a collaborative textile workshop inspired by sashiko, the Japanese tradition of decorative repair. Using simple running stitches and reclaimed fabric pieces, participants will contribute to a collective textile wave representing water, movement and positive change.

The event aims to encourage families to think differently about unwanted clothing and textiles: rather than seeing them as waste, we can repair, reuse, transform and reimagine them. Through hands-on making, participants will explore how small creative actions can contribute to more sustainable habits and greater care for our waterways and natural environment.

This event is designed for families and welcomes both children and adults. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Is imeacht ealaíne idirghníomhach agus cosán ealaíne uirbeach é Running Through Blue, a
bheidh ar siúl i gCearnóg an Mhargaidh, Caisleán an Bharra, mar chuid de Culture Night.
Cuirfidh na rannpháirtithe tús lena dturas i gCearnóg an Mhargaidh, áit a bhfaighidh siad
léarscáil speisialta a threoróidh iad trí lár an bhaile. Agus iad ag leanúint an chosáin, aimseoidh
siad gnéithe roghnaithe de Fabric of Hydrosphere: Heaviness of Blue, saothar teicstíle a
fhiosraíonn an gaol idir denim, uisce agus dramhaíl teicstíle, chomh maith le píosaí a cruthaíodh
mar chuid de thionscadal athúsáide agus athchóirithe éadaí MANA Creative Circle.
Tugann an cosán deis do rannpháirtithe an baile a fhiosrú trí ealaín, breathnóireacht agus
fionnachtain, agus machnamh a dhéanamh ar thuras na n-éadaí agus na n-ábhar ó úsáid
laethúil go dtí an fhéidearthacht gur dramhaíl a bheadh iontu.
Tar éis dóibh an cosán a chríochnú, fillfidh na rannpháirtithe ar Chearnóg an Mhargaidh le
haghaidh ceardlainne teicstíle comhoibrithí spreagtha ag sashiko, traidisiún Seapánach de
dheisiú maisiúil. Ag baint úsáide as greamanna simplí reatha agus píosaí fabraice athghinte,
cuirfidh na rannpháirtithe lena chéile tonn nó abhainn teicstíle a léireoidh uisce, gluaiseacht
agus athrú dearfach.
Tá sé mar aidhm ag an imeacht spreagadh a thabhairt do theaghlaigh smaoineamh ar bhealach
nua faoi éadaí agus teicstílí nach dteastaíonn uathu. Seachas iad a fheiceáil mar dhramhaíl, is
féidir linn iad a dheisiú, a athúsáid, a athrú agus smaointe nua a chruthú astu. Trí chruthú
praiticiúil, fiosróidh na rannpháirtithe conas is féidir le gníomhartha beaga cruthaitheacha cur le
nósanna níos inbhuanaithe agus le cúram níos fearr dár n-uiscebhealaí agus dár dtimpeallacht
nádúrtha.
Tá an t-imeacht deartha do theaghlaigh agus fáiltíonn sé roimh leanaí agus daoine fásta araon.
Ní mór do leanaí faoi 16 bliana d’aois a bheith in éineacht le duine fásta.
Beidh Running Through Blue ar siúl ó 4.00in go 7.00in i gCearnóg an Mhargaidh, Caisleán
an Bharra. Tá rannpháirtíocht saor in aisce, ach tá gá le háit a chur in áirithe roimh ré ar an
teileafón
