Roderic O’Conor Conference Opening reception
The conference will be held from Friday 23rd September, with an opening reception at Clonalis House, Castlerea, full day’s conference proceedings on Saturday 24th at Roscommon Arts Centre and the unveiling of public/historic information panel at Castleplunkett on Sunday 25th.
The conference programme will feature a range of international, national and local speakers, lecturers and art historians, including Jonathan Benington, Roy Johnson, Dr Kieran O’Conor, Pyers O’Conor Nash, Roisin Kennedy, Jody Moylan, Caroline Boyle Turner, Jessica Fahy and Ian Whtye.They will explore the life and career of this remarkable artist from his birth at Milltown, Co. Roscommon in 1860, his family history, his own artwork collection, his development as an artist, his styles and collaborations, up to his death in 1940. The programme will also examine his value and legacy.
This is a wonderful opportunity at a very local level to hear a range of presentations, which focus on research conducted, a reappraisal of his influence and outlining new insights into O’Conor’s life and work.
