Mary Clancy was born in Tipperary Town
Mary writes historical fiction - sweeping family sagas, featuring characters who faltered against the norms of society back in the day. Her characters are flawed but true to life ordinary people who strive to overcome what life has thrown at them. Mary writes about fractured lives and strong resilient characters. Her books are published by Poolbeg Press
Published in September 2020 during lockdown, her debut novel “The Blue Washing Bag” features Daisy who, abandoned as an infant at the side of the street, makes it her business as an adult to find those responsible and make them pay.
Mary’s second book “Between Love And Betrayal" also published by Poolbeg Press in 2022 is a sweeping saga featuring Connie Stapleton and Lucrezia Romano who fall in love in 1926 at a time when it was taboo for two women to fall in love. Darlene, a determined young American, intervenes to break that taboo - with the involvement of two teenagers whose lives will never be the same again. Her third book the Pretend daughters was recently release by Poolbeg Press.
