Pictiúir Daite D’Árann Ársa – Old Aran In Colour

Professor John Breslin, Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley and MacDara Ó Conaola

Based on the success of the “Old Ireland in Colour” books, University of Galway academics and co-authors Professor John Breslin and Dr Sarah-Anne Buckley have been involved in various exhibitions of their colourised photographs, with captions giving their historical context. Already on display at Inis Oírr’s Áras Éanna Arts Centre, a colourised collection of photographs taken on the three Aran Islands are coming to the University of Galway’s Arts Millennium Building for Culture Night, in an exhibition entitled “Pictiúir Daite D’Árann Ársa – Old Aran In Colour”. Captions for the photographs are in English agus as Gaeilge. Breslin and Buckley have collaborated with Inis Oírr-based composer MacDara Ó Conaola to co-create a soundtrack around the exhibition photographs. The launch of this exhibition will be preceded by a talk by Breslin and Buckley, with accompanying live music by Ó Conaola for the occasion. This exhibition is co-funded by the Árainn Fund at the University of Galway and Áras Éanna Ionad Ealaine, the most westerly arts centre in Europe on the beautiful Gaeltacht island of Inis Oírr.
