Description:
Literature and the ability to create new literature is under threat from AI. In this climate, libraries have a vital role to play in supporting aspiring and upcoming writers, by providing them with the inspiration and motivation to write, as well as providing space for them to showcase their work. Galway City Library is going to run an open call to new and upcoming writers inviting them to submit a 500-word piece of fiction writing. Submissions will be printed and displayed for reading in Galway City Library on Culture Night with 10 finalists invited to read their finished pieces in the City Library on Culture Night, 18 September 2026. The fiction piece can be on any topic and in any genre (literary, horror, crime etc), but must include a reference to Galway’s cultural heritage, and Ireland’s role in the European Union.
Tá an litríocht agus an cumas litríocht nua a chruthú faoi bhagairt ón IS. Agus an cás mar atá sé, tá ról ríthábhachtach ag leabharlanna ó thaobh tacú le scríbhneoirí atá ag teacht chun cinn, agus le daoine ar mhaith leo a bheith ina scríbhneoirí trí inspioráid agus spreagadh a thabhairt dóibh, chomh maith le spás a chur ar fáil dóibh lena gcuid oibre a chur i láthair. Beidh gairm oscailte á reáchtáil ag Leabharlann Chathair na Gaillimhe do scríbhneoirí nua agus do scríbhneoirí atá ag teacht chun cinn, ag tabhairt cuireadh dóibh píosa scríbhneoireachta ficsin 500 focal a chur isteach. Déanfar na hiarratais a phriontáil agus a chur ar taispeáint i Leabharlann Chathair na Gaillimhe ar Oíche Chultúir agus tabharfar cuireadh do 10 n-iomaitheoir a shroich an babhta ceannais a gcuid píosaí críochnaithe a léamh i Leabharlann na Cathrach ar Oíche Chultúir, an 18 Meán Fómhair 2026. Féadfaidh an píosa ficsin a bheith faoi ábhar ar bith agus féadfaidh seánra ar bith a bheith i gceist (ficsean liteartha, uafáis, coiriúlachta srl.), ach caithfear tagairt a dhéanamh d’oidhreacht chultúrtha na Gaillimhe, agus do ról na hÉireann san Aontas Eorpach.
