Enjoy a guided tour of the childhood home of Oscar Wilde, one of the most beloved writers in the world. It was within these walls that the young Oscar took his first steps, and where he was educated for the first 10 years of his life. As a teenager, Oscar attended the nearby Trinity College Dublin. His parents, Lady Jane Wilde (the poet Speranza) and Sir William Wilde, were both famous across Ireland long before Oscar made his mark on the world.
The Wilde household was renowned as a centre of culture in mid-Victorian Dublin for twenty-one years. The Wildes moved here in 1855 and for the proceeding two decades, No. 1 Merrion Square was the cultural epicentre of Dublin. The Wilde children, Willie, Oscar, and Isola experienced something of an idyllic childhood in this house, and in the park opposite. Walk the same rooms where Wilde once did, long before he learnt the importance of being Earnest!
