Clare - Ennis

OPW Ennis Friary

Visit/Guided Tour of the 13th Century Ennis Friary

View the town’s oldest building and it’s medieval sculptures, created  in the 15th century by local masons.  Hear about the social customs and beliefs in Ennis during the medieval period.  Learn of the local families associated with this traditional burial place of the ancient kings of Clare.

As dusk approaches, the cultural spirit of Ennis’ old Friary will be delivered through a number of atmospheric Ballades (28 line poems) especially written for the occasion. At 6pm, local author and historian Brian Dinan will guide attendees about the historic graveyard while reciting Ballades at graves, tombs and mausoleums. It is hoped that both the living and the dead will do light-hearted reflections on their lives during the tour. This free event promises to be a memorable occasion which discerning ‘culturists’ will not want to miss.
