Description:

To celebrate Culture Night 2023, Fingal Local Studies and Archives will open their doors to the public. Visitors will be able to view many of the hidden gems which nestle within their collections. Hand-written minute books of Dublin County Council from 1898 along with those of the Rural District Councils, Howth Urban District Council and the Balbriggan Town Commissioners will be on display. Letters written by those involved in the fight for Ireland’s Independence can be read along with harrowing letters from the trenches of WW1. Survey maps of lands owned by the Hamiltons of Abbotstown and the Earl of Howth will be on view as well as a number of historic maps and a comprehensive local history collection. This is a rare opportunity for the public to go behind the scenes of Fingal Local Studies and Archives. Staff will be onsite to answer questions and guide visitors through the night.
