Cork - Cork County / Midleton

Noggin Theatre

The premise is that of a woman coming to give a cookery demonstration and as she does so she divulges her story of growing up on an Irish country farm. It is a dark yet funny tale involving hardship, murder and intrigue but most of all great sacrifice, realisation and love.

Alice Barry captivates her audience in this delightful, moving one woman show. Under the guise of a cookery demonstration where Della Dolan shows us how to make ‘the perfect Fruitcake’ she divests provoking memories to give a fascinating account of her life on an Irish farm. She divulges a chequered past involving hardship, murder and intrigue but most of all great sacrifice, realisation and love. Funny and poignant with accessible visuals this play will make you laugh and cry and remind you why life is ultimately rewarding and exciting for all its ups and downs.

‘Alice Barry’s carefully written play has a further reaching ambition. The skill of the writing is that there is never a sense of lurching gear changes being made to encompass the various plot developments. It is an unexpectedly moving piece of work.’

This is Sea

This is Sea explores our personal relationship with the sea and beach. Visual artists will guide the public to make a fun self portrait using beach bounty to bring awareness to the flexibility of sustainable materials and the natural beauty of the ocean on our doorstep.

This is Sea is a free family fun activity, making art with natural materials in the main market public space. Frames, canvas and all materials are provided. Visual artists will guide the public to connect with their thoughts and feelings about the sea and beaches nearby and they will be encouraged to make a self portrait for ‘All to Sea’. The self portraits will be photographed with permission and a slideshow will be created to publish on Midleton arts festival website at a later date. This project will also bring awareness to the beauty and flexibility of natural materials and will provoke discussion on peoples dependence on unsustainable materials as a source of entertainment and creativity.
