FATHOM exhibition in the Riverbank Arts Centre

Riverbank Arts Centre

Unfortunately the planned artist’s tours of FATHOM can no longer take place on Culture Night. You are welcome to visit our galleries between 6pm & 8pm and a member of our team will guide you around the exhibitions.

‘Measurement is an ordering principle we use to understand and orient ourselves in time and space.  We need dimensions to help us make sense of an otherwise chaotic existence. Tools of measurement serve as reliable objects that keep us in line and on the straight & narrow. The sense of authority bestowed by reliable objects can provide a place of solace & support in the face of uncertainty and powerlessness.
Having lived through a relentless storm of anxiety and unpredictability, it stands to reason that we may be reaching out in search of stability, certitude and reassurance. In ‘Fathom’ I have endeavoured to gather and construct a personal system of measurement as filtered through an imperfect metric.  In an attempt to create a visible representation of a sense of order, I look to the origins and evolution of units of measure’.
– Caoimhe McGuckin

‘Fathom’ is supported by Kildare County Council Arts Service and Riverbank Arts Centre’s ‘Emerging Visual Artist Bursary Award’, which Caoimhe McGuckin was awarded in 2019. Caoimhe McGuckin is a Kildare based artist with a first-class BA(Hons) from the National College of Art & Design. ‘Fathom’ is her first solo exhibition.
