Making Medieval Irish Handbells

Killoluaig, Portmagee, Co. Kerry, V23 H337

Bringing the story behind Ireland’s medieval heritage alive, sculptor Holger Lonze and artist Karen Hendy will cast replicas of 10th C. Irish handbells inspired by the Early Christian heritage of South Kerry. Molten bronze will be poured into clay/dung moulds in a charcoal pit furnace fuelled with hand bellows in an itinerant metal outdoor workshop – a spectacular sight. Come explore this ancient process that connects contemporary art and archaeology. Please dress according to the weather!
