Description:

Make Your Mark: A Printmaking Lab transforms Boomerang Cafe into a temporary public print studio for Culture Night 2026. From 5.30pm–9.30pm, visitors are invited to drop in and take part in free, open-access printmaking activities. There are no scheduled workshops, booking requirements or previous experience needed—people can observe, experiment or create at their own pace.
Throughout the evening, the space operates as a live studio, with the artist and assistant continuously demonstrating techniques, supporting participants and encouraging informal, hands-on engagement. Using pre-prepared lino blocks, stamps, textures and monoprint processes, participants create unique prints through layering, mark-making and creative play. The focus is on exploration and self-expression rather than technical skill, making the activity welcoming and accessible for all ages and abilities.
Using fast-drying, water-based inks, participants can take their finished print home the same evening. They are also invited to contribute a second print to a collaborative display that grows throughout the event, creating a temporary exhibition celebrating the creativity and diversity of everyone who takes part.
The project particularly aims to engage young people while remaining open to all Culture Night visitors. By activating Boomerang Cafe—a venue not traditionally included in the Culture Night programme—it introduces new audiences to printmaking while showcasing the creative potential of the youth centre as a welcoming cultural space.
