An Equal Music: Music for Flute and Piano by Women Composers
We will be celebrating writings and music by female authors and composers from the 19th century to the present day.
Poet Geraldine Mitchell will read a poem from her latest collection, ‘Mute/Unmute’
Anne Chambers, author of a highly regarded biography of Grace O’Malley presents a pen-picture of Mayo’s 16th century Pirate Queen.
Surfer and Environmental activist, Easkey Britton will read an extract from her new book, ‘Saltwater in the Blood.
Shelley Upchurch from Books at One, reads a poem by Imagist poet, Amy Lowell.
The readings are paired with piano music by Clara Wieck Schumann, Cecile Chaminade, Karen Tanaka and Amy Beach.

The video then rounds off with music for flute and piano by Cecilia McDowall.

Culture Night is strategically funded by Mayo County Council and the Arts Council and is supported by Creative Ireland and participating groups & venues in Mayo.  Media Sponsor is Mid-West Radio.
