The Kildare Folklore Group at The Bog of Allen Nature Centre

Bog of Allen Nature Centre

Back in November 2021 artist/folklorist Michael Fortune began working with a group of art practitioners, heritage experts and community facilitators from across County Kildare to develop their digital skills in the area of folklore collecting, digital map making and documentary making.
Ten months later and the fruits of the group’s work will be officially premiered as part of the Culture Night programme for Kildare Arts Office in a specially installed show at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre, the headquarters of the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. The Kildare Folklore group as they have become known feature Cathy Callan, Andrea Redmond, Séimidh Ó Dubhtaigh, Aideen Cross, Laurence Fullam, Jarlath MacNamara, Kate Boylan and Sheena Malone.

For Culture Night they will present a selection of their work which explores personal memories of local history, folklore and traditions through the media of short films. The short films which will be screened capture something extraordinary in the ordinary moments of the everyday lives that surround us. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome. The event has been curated by Sheena Malone and Michael Fortune with the support of the Arts Office of Kildare County Council.
