Kilbeggan Library are celebrating the work of Kilbeggan artist Eileen Coghlan (1909-1990).

Kilbeggan Library

Who was Eileen Coghlan? Even if you’ve never heard her name, you’ve probably seen her work in classic children’s books. Coghlan made her mark with hundreds of illustrations, paintings and cartoons. Her work covered everything from daily life and history to fantasy and mythology.

To celebrate culture night, we will have an exhibition of her books and artwork in the main library and in conjunction with the exhibition, Kilbeggan Library is hosting an art project for young people aged 8-15. Eileen’s art ranged from day-to-day life to the magical and the imaginative. We want you to make a piece of art based on the theme ‘Finding magic in everyday life’ and submit it to us here in Kilbeggan Library. We will put all appropriate artworks on display for a special event, and the very best pieces will be exhibited alongside Eileen Coghlan’s work for a whole month. Drop your artwork in to Kilbeggan Library by Friday October 14th.
