A short lecture on the history of self-portraiture in photography, followed by a hands-on workshop where participants create their own self-portraits using their cameras or smartphones – covering composition, light, and concept.

Participants take home an assignment, and finished images are printed for review and display.

The lecture traces how self-portrait photography emerged and evolved from early experiments to today, exploring the different reasons artists turn the camera on themselves: self-exploration, protest, identity, and documentation.

It also touches on how self-portraiture can positively support mental wellbeing through reflection, self-acceptance, and reclaiming self-representation.

In the workshop, participants will learn core principles of creating a photograph, including composition and working with available light, and put them into practice during the session.

Afterward, participants take home a practical assignment. Once completed, each participant’s finished image will be printed on fine art paper and given a personal review.
