This Culture Night, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia opens its doors to present the exhibition House Museums Of Language. The exhibition thematically interweaves figures, places, and ideas from Slovenia and Ireland, exploring the role of language in national revival, poetry and nation building, artists and society, landscape and memory and the world beyond borders.

Through the works and museum houses of key Slovenian and Irish authors and poets, the exhibition explores how language, literature, and cultural circles helped shape the national identity of Slovenia and Ireland even before the emergence of the nation states in their modern forms.

These themes are brought out in the works of: Matija Čop and Douglas Hyde; France Prešeren and W. B. Yeats; Ivan Cankar and Oscar Wilde; Simon Gregorčič and Seamus Heaney; and Alma M. Karlin and James Joyce.

Pairing the homes and contexts authors were brought up in, with the works that they created, museum houses are presented as spaces in which ideas were born, and which preserve the stories of the people who helped shape the linguistic and cultural memory of their nations.
