Heritage Iveragh and Caherdaniel Dark Sky team up to present an in-person event at Derrynane dunes in memory of Kay O’Connor who founded the Caherdaniel Dark Sky group. Star gazer Michael Sheehan (it is thanks to Michael and Julie Ormonde that the Kerry Dark Sky recognition was granted) and archaeologist Aoibheann Lambe are delighted to team up again to present this dark sky, folklore, history and archaeology event. Tom Horgan will also tell a few short stories about Daniel O’Connell, the butter road etc. Astronomically related yarns from the participants are welcomed.
Parking in the carpark of Derrynane House (former home of Daniel O’Connell). Meet in the carpark at 8.45 where a COVID compliance officer takes details and advises on social distancing. At 9pm, the group will take the track from the carpark to the dunes (it will be illuminated) and follow the trail of lights to where the dunes overlook Derrynane Bay. Bring a torch to light the way. All welcome.
