Music Network presents Ye Vagabonds and Cormac Begley on a nationwide tour from 17th-26th September, including a free concert in the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo on Culture Night, Friday 18th September.

Ye Vagabonds – brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn – are fast earning a ticket on the legend bus. With trademark close harmony singing, lean and tasty accompaniment and the rare ability to tell a good story in song, it’s little surprise that they became triple RTÉ Radio 1 Folk awardees last year.

On Music Network’s September tour they’ll take to the road in a new collaboration with the superb West-Kerry concertina player Cormac Begley. No stranger to musical acclaim himself, Cormac’s spectacular debut solo album received nine 5-star reviews and was shortlisted for the Irish Times Album of the Year 2018.

Commenting on the new collaboration, CEO of Music Network Sharon Rollston said “Even though they come from quite different musical backgrounds, Ye Vagabonds’ and Cormac Begley’s approach to music-making has a common thread. All three artists have an innate ability to explore and share music from our tradition in ways that feel fresh and new, and very relatable for audiences today. We’re confident they’ll each bring something unique to the collaboration resulting in the creation of ten very special performances. Weaving seamlessly between traditional and contemporary songs and tunes, this trio will remind us of just how precious live music is.”

Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn grew up playing music together in Carlow. They have played sold out headline shows in Ireland, France, Switzerland and the UK. Their second album The Hare’s Lament was released in 2019 to huge critical acclaim, winning the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Traditional Track, and sweeping the boards at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards where they won Best Traditional Track, Best Group, and Best Album.

Cormac Begley is a solo bass, baritone, treble and piccolo concertina player from a West-Kerry musical family. He plays in a range of collaborations with Liam O Connor, Rushad Eggleston, Liam Ó Maonlaí and Lisa O’Neill, and is the founder of the Airt Residential School and the award winning Tunes in the Church live concert series in Galway and Dublin. Cormac was nominated for RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Instrumentalist of the Year in 2018 and 2019, and his debut solo album received nine 5-star reviews and was shortlisted for the Irish Times Album of the Year 2018.

Music Network’s partner venues have been working hard to ensure that audience members can enjoy live music again in an environment that is as safe and as comfortable as possible, in adherence with current public health guidelines.
