Hawkin's House

Dublin's Theatre Royal Remembered

Offline

Dublin’s last great Theatre Royal on Hawkin’s Street was demolished in 1962. The OPW have given permission to project images of the Royal and the Irish and International stars who appeared at the largest theatre in Europe with 4,000 seats.

Stars like Judy Garland, Danny Kaye, Bill Haley, Jimmy Durante, Noel Purcell, Jimmy O’Dea, Maureen Potter, the Royalettes and Cecil Sheridan will appear again on this most hallowed place in Dublin theatre for the first time in nearly 60 years!

The presentation will be 30 minutes in duration and then repeated. The images will be seen from College Street, the bottom of Townsend Street, outside Pearse Street Garda Station and along Hawkin’s Street itself. This is a unique opportunity as the Hawkin’s House will be gone in a couple of months time.
