Join author and stained glass historian Dr David Caron, whose Dublin’s Stained Glass: a guide to the finest twentieth-century windows has introduced many to Ireland’s rich ecclesiastical art heritage for a fascinating exploration of the extraordinary stained glass collection in St. Joseph’s Church, Terenure.

This special Culture Night presentation will focus on the genius of Harry Clarke, Ireland’s most celebrated stained glass artist, whose magnificent Adoration of the Cross by Irish Saints (1920), and the exquisite companion windows The Annunciation (1922) and The Coronation of the Virgin in Glory (1923) rank among the finest examples of his work.

David will also examine the remarkable legacy of the Harry Clarke Studios following Clarke’s untimely death in 1931 with particular attention to the artistry of Richard King, Clarke’s most talented assistant, whose windows at St. Joseph’s reveal both the influence of his master and the emergence of his own distinctive artistic voice.

Through stories, images, and close observation of the windows themselves, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship, symbolism, colour, and spirituality that make St. Joseph’s one of Dublin’s hidden treasures.

Following the talk, visitors will be invited to remain in the church to view the windows at close quarters, allowing ample opportunity to appreciate the intricate detail and luminous beauty of these remarkable works of Irish art.
