Broadcaster Dr. Ciara Kelly in Conversation with Ruth Fitzmaurice

In January 2016, Ruth wrote her first piece for the Irish Times newspaper: I found my tribe at the Cove in Greystones.  It received an unprecedented amount of attention and her memoir I FOUND MY TRIBE was published by Chatto & Windus in 2017, by Bloomsbury US in 2018 and will be translated into multiple languages. Film rights to the book have been optioned by Element Pictures.

I’ve Found my Tribe tells the story of Ruth and her husband Simon, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2008. The couple’s five children, Jack, Raife, Arden and twins Sadie and Hunter are also very much part of the story.  A group of women that gather to swim in the Irish Sea off Greystones became Ruth’s tribe during the course of her husband’s illness, and shared a daily plunge into the icy waters during and since that journey.

Dr Ciara Kelly is a GP, an Award Winning Columnist with the Sunday Independent and Broadcaster with Newstalk presenting her own show Lunchtime Live. Ciara began her media career when she first started to write for the Sunday Independent in 2008 and her debut article won a Medical Journalism Award.
