Greek Orthodox Community of Ireland

A Snapshot of Orthodoxy and the Greek Tradition on Culture Night

Online

The programme will be an arrangement of initially a brief introduction to orthodoxy and the orthodox church, followed
by samples of Byzantine chanting by our priest Fr Ioannis Pantelidis, and subsequently ending by a presentation of the
art of hagiography, which means icon painting, by our Community hagiographer Ms Kyriaki Tzouveleki. We envisage
the evening to be a cyclical repetition of this arrangement, for the 4 h duration of our participation this year, with each
one of these cycles being approximately 30 min in duration.
If the technology allows, we will also try to connect with Mr Dimitris Theodorakakis, a past member of our community,
currently in France, to show case some of the various traditional costumes in various regions of Greece, with emphasis
on the Macedonian garments. Dimitris, has extensive knowledge on the topic and he is also a maker of these
costumes.
