The Gate Theatre

One of Ireland’s most iconic and best-loved theatres, the Gate was founded in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál MacLiammóir and became internationally renowned as one of the most adventurous and far-sighted playhouses in Europe. Under Selina Cartmell, the theatre's new Director as of April 2017, the Gate will open its doors on Culture Night and welcome the public in for a special event to celebrate this new chapter in its history.

This Culture Night, we’ll be opening up The Gate and hosting a very special discussion with the team behind our upcoming production - Nina Raine’s TRIBES.

Director Oonagh Murphy, along with a selection of the cast and creatives behind the show, are set to delve into the processes and challenges involved in breathing life into this ambitious production.

Raine’s penetrating, deeply moving and shockingly funny play follows Billy, born deaf into a hearing family, as he struggles to define who he is within his highly intellectual, yet emotionally possessive, clan.
