4pm – late
Galway Civic Trust and Galway Early Music will partner to provide an evening of information on the history of Galway’s original town hall, along with interludes of medieval music. Come along and learn about the archaeological remains which once acted as a banqueting hall, tax office and courthouse. You will also be charmed by the strains of medieval music which once echoed through the historic hall.
8.00pm A special Culture Night Recital with Aisling Kenny (soprano) and Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harpist and composer)
Culture Night and Galway Civic Trust are delighted to present a fabulous concert by two of Ireland’s finest performers!
Aisling Kenny, from Galway, is a soloist and ensemble singer specialising in early music and art song. She sings regularly as a soloist in oratorio: recent performances include Handel Messiah, Hasse Miserere, Bach Actus Tragicus, St Matthew Passion and Mass in B minor. An active recitalist of Lieder and lute song, she has presented recitals in Basel, Oxford and all over Ireland. Aisling has performed as a soloist in several festivals including the Galway Early Music Festival and Kilkenny Arts Festival.
Anne-Marie O’Farrell is a leading harpist of her generation, who has significantly extended the boundaries of what was considered possible on the Irish harp, broadening its repertoire and chromatic range. On pedal harp she has brought the instrument into new contexts, in contemporary and improvised music, by expanding its chamber repertoire through her composition, and with her continued transcription of repertoire new to the pedal harp
