Join political historian and international governance expert Dr. Peter Moloney for a captivating exploration of Ireland’s relationship with the European Union. Since Ireland first signed the treaty of accession and officially joined the European Economic Community in 1973, its economic, social, and political landscapes have completely transformed. Dr. Moloney will track this dynamic evolution, reflecting on over five decades of integration and sharing expert insights on how Ireland navigates modern challenges. He will dive into the complex, post-Brexit realities of the Northern Ireland Protocol, shifting trade routes, and the ongoing impacts on the island’s geopolitical landscape.

This talk offers a vital perspective for anyone looking to understand Ireland’s past, present, and future role at the heart of Europe.

Dr. Peter Moloney is an academic historian, international relations expert, and corporate communications leader. Holding a PhD in Modern European History from Boston College, he spent over a decade teaching in the United States, including faculty roles in the Management and Business Department at Skidmore College and history departments at Boston College. Currently based in Killarney, County Kerry, he works as a Senior Proposal Writer, Editor, and People Leader, directing high-level bid strategies for major global firms. Alongside his corporate leadership, he continues to write and speak independently as a socio-political commentator specializing in Brexit, globalization, and European politics. He is contributing a chapter to the UCC Press’ Atlas of the GAA, which is forthcoming.

Culture Night Kerry is co-funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Kerry County Council, with support from Creative Ireland. This event forms part of Cultúr 2026: Sharing Ireland’s Culture, the national cultural programme for Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and is supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport through Culture Ireland.There is free admission to this talk, although you can still reserve a ticket online.
