Fold and Rise - A perspective on the folding and unfolding nature of time. The metaphor and material of the folding and rising of dough is used to have a conversation around women, labour, politics and culture in our time and in the adjacent time of Constance Markievicz. This intimate, multi-disciplinary workshop combines performative action, discussion and participation. Bring a mixing bowl!
Since 2014, participatory art project Fold & Rise, has traced and mapped the artistic and political life of Constance Markievicz, who, following the enactment of the Representation of the People Act, was the first woman elected to parliament, of the seventeen female candidates who stood in 1918.
Maeve Collins (Clare) and Julie Griffiths (Donygal) are the two socially engaged artists who collaborate on the practice, Fold and Rise. They have been collaborating on social engagement projects since 2013. Their next fold and Rise conversation will be in Westminister, London following a visit to Aras an Uachtairain.
