Description:

Donegal County Museum in association with the County Archives Service have curated this exhibition on The Workhouses of County Donegal. The Donegal Workhouses were located in Carndonagh, Glenties, Ballyshannon, Donegal, Milford, Letterkenny, Stranorlar and Dunfanaghy. The Workhouse is synonymous with the social care system that existed in Ireland prior to Independence, but its role in society has often been overlooked or misunderstood. This exhibition tells the story of The Donegal Workhouses from the Great Famine to their closure in 1922 and will shine a light into the lives of those who spent time in their care. The exhibition is funded through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media’s
Regional Museum Exhibition Scheme 2023.
